Mission Participant Description

3-Day Mission Trip Participant

Mission trip participants should have a stable relationship with the Lord and a heart ready to serve others and to consider others' needs more important than their own. Participants should be in good health and free of family or other problems at home that will distract or hinder them from fully engaging in the ministry. Participants must be flexible, able to deal with sudden problems or changes of plans. They should be able to handle a rigorous schedule, foods they’re not used to, and less-than-ideal sleeping and bathroom conditions. Mission trip participants must accept and act upon instructions and submit to authority.

2-Month Summer Intern

Summer interns should exhibit all the same characteristics as 3-day mission trip participants. It is important that they also be able to engage well with people. An introverted intern who needs some alone time is fine, but over the long haul of the summer, interns must be able to handle a lot of contact with other people. They must not be divisive or prone to gossip. Interns should have a positive attitude in general, be full of grace for others, and be able to handle interpersonal conflict, should it arise. All of us experience occasional problems and need the support of brothers and sisters in Christ, but "high maintenance" interns who focus on personal issues will become a drain on staff and other interns and hinder GFM’s ministry, a scenario we would like to avoid.

Missionary Training School Student

Missionary Training School students should exhibit all the same characteristics as 3-day mission trip participants and summer interns. We look for self-motivated people with a strong sense of calling who will work hard at language, culture, studies, and developing relationships. The best students are good team players who thrive in community life. We look for students who promote unity in the body, focusing on the needs of the group/ministry rather than themselves. Leadership ability is helpful, since we serve in pioneer areas. A teachable spirit and an open mind to learn new ideas are essential characteristics for every student.

Missionary Resident

Missionary residents should exhibit all the same characteristics as 3-day mission trip participants and summer interns. We look for self-motivated people with a strong sense of calling who will live with a missions mindset while working part or full-time jobs. Each week, residents spend a few hours in training, a few hours leading small groups and Bible studies, and a few hours in the harvest sharing their faith with the lost.

SLICE Program Participant

SLICE program participants should exhibit all the same characteristics as 3-day mission trip participants and summer interns. We look for self-motivated people with a strong sense of calling who will work hard at language, culture, studies, and developing relationships. This program is in South Asia where living conditions are pretty difficult, so we need people with a good bit of grit, a desire to live incarnationally among the lost, and a strong sense of calling to unreached people groups. We seek people who are flexible, resilient, and teachable.
