GFM USA - Houston, TX, USA

Are there really unreached people groups in Houston? Yes! Houston is among the fastest-growing and most diverse metropolitan areas. More than 1 in 5 foreign-born residents in Houston were born in Asia. Over 60,000 Urdu speaking Pakistani's live here, and with no designated Urdu speaking missionary to reach them. The IMB has identified some 350 people groups in Houston. Houston, Texas has become a snapshot of the unreached people groups in the 10-40 Window!

Each year thousands of refugees from unreached people groups are resettled in the Gulfton area of Houston. Gulfton has locally been called "the Ellis Island of the current time." Many of these refugees are more connected globally than locally. Refugees come from all over the world, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Mauritania, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Vietnam. Global Frontier Missions is committed to leading short-term mission trips in Houston to work among refugees from unreached people groups. Missionary Training School students build relationships with refugees through teaching ESL, setting up refugee apartments and sharing meals. Houston missionary internships allow interns to move into the refugee community and gain cross-cultural experience while also helping to host and train participants for summer mission trips.

Global Frontier Missions also works in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston. Sugar Land is the fastest growing city in Texas, and boasts an incredibly diverse population. A magazine recently noted that Sugar Land may be better known in India and China than it is in the United States. Houston Missionary Training School students live right next to unreached Hindus, Unreligious, Muslims and Buddhists. God has opened up an amazing opportunity to build relationships with neighbors from Nigeria, Jordan, India, China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Mexico, Venezuela, and more.

Being on mission in Sugar Land, Texas presents the unique opportunity of influencing the influencers. Many residents are foreign nationals or have duel-citizenship and travel overseas multiple times a year. These are the affluent business men and women that have come to work for the oil, gas, technology and medical industries, and that are held in great esteem in their native countries. God has given us an incredible opportunity to spread the Gospel to the ends of the Earth by building relationships with people from nations where a traditional missionary would never be allowed.
