Global Frontier Missions - Our History

GFM was started in 2000 with the purpose of seeing disciples made and churches planted among the remaining unreached people groups of the world. It had humble beginnings with one missionary couple planting churches in a few of the least reached villages in Mexico. As they began to host short-term mission trips and summer internships, more people caught the vision for God's heart for all nations. They began an indgenous Bible school and then felt led to start a missionary training school to equip even more people to go and serve among the 1.7 billion people that have never heard the gospel. GFM's staff began to steadily grow.

In 2006, GFM began to start taking trips into the 10/40 window where over 95% of the remaining unreached people groups live. We had been sharing the state of the world for years with our short-term mission trips, so now it was time to go see the harvest field for ourselves. We started in Morocco, and then went on to places like India and Thailand. As we were there scouting out places to send potential short-term teams and long-term church planting teams, the Lord laid on our hearts the "THUMBs Up" vision. THUMB stands for Tribals, Hindus, Unreligious/Chinese, Muslim, Buddhists and we felt like the Lord was saying to expand beyond Mexico and see a mobilization and training hub established for each of those main religious groups. We recently equipped a team that was sent out to Thailand and have a team that is in the process of heading to northern India.

In 2009, we were seeking the Lord as to what was next. We were looking at adding new locations in the 10/40 window when God told us to start looking at the U.S. and laid on our hearts "the Jerusalem strategy". When reading the story of the early church in Acts, we see that Jesus said that the gospel would be preached to all nations starting in Jerusalem. Why there? Because Acts 2 tells us that in Jerusalem there were people dwelling there from many different Gentile nations. When the Holy Spirit shows up, he starts speaking in all of the different languages and you get the sense that all of those people began scattering and taking the Good News all over the earth. So, we began looking for melting pots in the United States where we could train missionaries that want to go overseas but also reach out to the refugees, immigrants, and international students that God is bringing to our country. What would happen if we were able to make disciples of them and many of them returned to their own people as a witness to Christ? Atlanta and Houston were chosen as our first two locations in the United States to establish mobilization and training hubs.

Over the past twelve years, Global Frontier Missions has seen hundreds of people come through its Short Term Missions Trips, Summer Missionary Internships, and Missionary Training Schools. Many of those participants have been called to long-term missions and are working in different parts of the world while others have gotten involved through prayer, giving, and mobilizing others.

We are committed to reaching the remaining unreached people groups of the world and will always have a focus on places where there are no Christians or no churches. Our goal is to see indigenous church planting movements started among all peoples of the earth. Pray about how you can get involved in reaching those that have never heard.
