Covenant Theological Seminary Bible Degree for GFM MTS Graduates

Global Frontier Missions has partnered with Covenant Theological Seminary to offer Associate, Bachelor, and Master of Ministry in Intercultural Studies degrees. As long as MTS students attend all classes, complete all coursework, pass all tests, and do their ministry hours, they will be able to earn their Bible degrees during the five month program!

Coursework
Global Frontier Missions developed a lot of the curriculum for the Covenant Theological Seminary Intercultural Studies program. In exchange for developing the degree program, CTS graciously allows GFM missionary training school graduates to transfer their credit from the MTS. The missionary training school actually includes all of the material from the following CTS courses:
SG 0513 The Purpose Driven Life (3 hours)
SA 5103 Could You Not Tarry One Hour (3 hours)
SG 5133 Keys to Hearing God's Voice (3 hours)
IS 0723 The Missionary Task (3 hours)
IS 0733 The Missionary Call (3 hours)
IS 0743 Church Planting Movements (3 hours)
IS 0753 Money and Missions (3 hours)
IS 0763 Cults and World Religions (3 hours)
IS 0773 Orality and Storytelling (3 hours)
IS 0783 Revival and Community Transformation (3 hours)
IS 0793 Community Development (3 hours)
IS 0803 Missions in a Pluralistic, Postmodern World (3 hours)

Credits
Many people ask how we are able to offer degrees in such a short period of time. Students will receive 30 hours worth of credit for the coursework mentioned above. It is fairly intensive as each of these courses has two books that go along with them, so you end up reading about 26 books during the five month missionary training school. There are also assignments and tests, so students are basically carrying a 30 hour load in one semester. Students will also receive 30 hours worth of Ministry Portfolio Credit for their 12-15 hours per week serving among internationals. So, you receive 60 credit hours total during the five month missionary training school!

Covenant Theological Seminary Degrees
Students that go through the GFM missionary training school with no prior higher education and successfully complete all required coursework will earn an Associate of Ministry in Intercultural Studies degree.

Students that already have the equivalent of an Associate's degree (60 hours) from previous education and successfully complete all required coursework during the GFM missionary training school will earn a Bachelor of Ministry in Intercultural Studies degree.

Students that already have an undergraduate Bachelor degree (from another educational institution) and successfully complete all required coursework during the GFM Missionary Training School will earn a Master of Ministry in Intercultural Studies degree.

Students are required to get proof of prior education in the form of official transcripts and send that to the Covenant Theological Seminary office in order to be awarded a degree.

Forms
During the missionary training school, all Global Frontier Missions students will be required to fill out the Covenant Theological Seminary student application as well as the online application for degree form.

Finances
Global Frontier Missions charges $650/month for the five month missionary training school (or $300/month for commuter students) which will be paid directly to GFM. This includes tuition and books as well as housing (rent, utilities, internet). The degree transfer fees are not included in the cost of the missionary training school. That will be paid directly to Covenant Theological Seminary based on the following structure:
Associate of Ministry in Intercultural Studies Degree - $300
Bachelor of Ministry in Intercultural Studies Degree - $600
Master of Minsitry in Intercultural Studies Degree - $900
Payments can be made online at the Covenant Theological Seminary website.

Accreditation
Covenant Theological Seminary is incorporated by the State of North Carolina and registered with the Commission for Independent Education of the North Carolina Department of Education as a religious institution and is therefore exempt from licensure by state statute.

Covenant Theological Seminary accreditation is with the World Wide Accrediting Commission (WWAC) of Richmond, Virginia. The WWAC is an accrediting commission, which holds as its primary objective the encouragement and maintenance of sound scholarship and the highest academic achievement in the areas of private education.

Quality education is the goal at all times. Its purpose is the establishment of quality education in private schools, colleges, and theological seminaries. It is a non-governmental body and makes no claim to be connected with the government.

The purpose of accreditation is to:
1. Certify that an institution has met established standards of excellence,
2. Assist prospective students in identifying reputable institutions which offer degree programs that will meet their needs and goals.
3. Allow institutions to evaluate the acceptability of transfer credits into their own curricular programs.
Applicants for admission to CTS are considered without regard to sex, age, color, or national origin. Each prospective student will be assessed according to his or her academic background.

This degree meets the requirement that a lot of missions sending agencies have (20-30 credits of undergraduate Bible courses) which is the main reason that we started offering this option. Several allumni have found it helpful to get on staff with churches and campus ministries as well.
